Navigating this new reality was a learning experience filled with trial and error.
Despite the support from groups and individuals who had faced similar challenges, I was struck by the limited information and resources available, particularly in Florida, a state with a significant elderly population.
This was just the beginning of my personal encounters with dementia.
Shortly thereafter, my stepdad suffered a stroke that led to aphasia and eventually Lewy Body Dementia. Few years later, my maternal grandmother, who had managed diabetes for decades, began exhibiting signs of dementia.
Sadly, all three of my loved ones have since passed away.
